Biography
I am self-taught artist who discovered my talent in 2006. It was a friendly competition among family to see who could draw the best Mickey Mouse. I was impressed with the accuracy of my own drawing compared to my family. The next day, on impulse, I went to the library and checked out as many books as I could on the subject. Only two years learning the skill, in 2008, I have sold three drawings and have donated two art pieces to the Hillside Community Center in Colorado Springs.
Unfortunately, I did not take my drawing abilities seriously until I applied to the Art Instruction School located in Minneapolis. I received their signature packet, drew the pirate, and received a score of 91 for my sketch. I was rewarded a scholarship for $348.50 to participate in their school and was deemed an “above average” artist.
I am attending Pikes Peak Community College and since my enrollment in 2010 have become more involved with participating in competitions. Recently, I have won third place for my sculpture “Solar Chandelier” for the second annual Trash Art Competition. I have received a certificate of Honorable Mention for my sculpture titled “Waterfall of Life” in the first annual Trash Art Competition held at Pikes Peak Community College. This was an honor considering this was my first sculpture working with raw materials. Nine days later, on May 4, 2012, I received another Honorable Mention certificate for my wire sculpture title “Infinite of Knowledge” at the Spring Spark art show which was held at Pikes Peak Community College downtown campus.
Among this impressive list, I was invited to speak at the Pikes Peak Community College Parley Convention. The event was a double celebration, honoring Martin Luther King Jr. and recognizing students that won an essay contest surrounding his Letter of Birmingham Jail. I had the pleasure of introducing the winners to a crowd of 300 and adding my own voice to the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
I have collaborated with an upcoming rapper, Plural Clarity, with designing his CD cover for his new album title “Clearly, There Is a Problem Here.” My drawings are parallel with his vision which is featured throughout the CD. I have collaborated with Mrs. Kristy Callahan with designing the word “speak” for her classroom to promote the slogan “communication is the key to success.”
I have volunteer at the Pioneers Museum where I was a docent for several years. I have lead three tours and participated in a new program called “The Museum Experience,” a challenge of building an exhibit from scratch surrounding the theme “Artist in the Pikes Peak Region, Why Did They Come?” The program was a two and a half day workshop of selecting artifacts, researching, and utilizing archival artifacts to build my showcase titled “Medication.” I have a certificate of completion for the successful exhibit.
My major is Art History with Museum & Gallery Practice for my minors. When I am not working on art I am collecting books and researching artifacts.
